Pre-Emergent Herbicide
Weeds are a nuisance to any garden or landscape and are a common problem for landscapers and gardeners everywhere, as they can take over quickly and make it difficult to keep your space looking neat and organized. Even with diligent weed removal, some weeds can still persist in your garden or lawn since the seeds will germinate and produce new weeds.
Pre-emergent herbicides are designed to provide protection against weeds before they even have the chance to germinate in the soil. A pre-emergent herbicide works by creating a chemical barrier on the surface of the soil that prevents weed seeds from being able to sprout and grow. This means the weeds never have a chance to take root and become established.
No selective pre-emergent or post-emergent herbicide will work in controlling all invasive weeds. Therefore, pre-emergence and post-emergence herbicides will be required in most turf lawns to maintain acceptable weed control results.
Different Types
Weeds are one of the most annoying and persistent pests for a homeowner or gardener. They can quickly take over a beautiful flowerbed or an entire lawn, making it challenging to keep your outdoor space looking neat and tidy.
Thankfully, these pre-emergent herbicides can be used to prevent weeds from emerging in the first place. However, it is important to know that there are different types of pre-emergent herbicides available, each designed to work best on certain weed varieties.
Knowing which type of pre-emergent to use for which weed can make all the difference in controlling the spread of invasive plants.
When To Not To
Pre-emergent herbicides control weeds by preventing them from sprouting and growing in the first place. However, there are some situations where pre-emergent herbicides may not be the best option. For example, a familiar circumstance under which pre-emergent herbicides should not be used would be when you have newly introduced seed that would need to germinate. The application of a pre-emergent would prevent this desired germination.
